Natural Pet Health

Many of us have goals to make this year a happier and healthier year for ourselves and our families, including our pets. Our furry friends are part of the family right? So, why exclude their health?

Recently, I was doing a little research on natural pet health and read about various dog food brands, vaccinations, routine medications, etc. WOW, was I shocked to read what some dog foods and products are made of. There were select few brands that was trying to steer clear from, but when I dove into the topic further, I was baffled by just how many brands use “unclean” sources. If our goal is to keep our pets healthy, it’s time to make some much needed changes on their behalf. Of course they will most likely eat whatever you give them, but it’s in our hands (literally!) to provide products that will benefit their overall health in order for them to live a life of longevity and fullness right by our sides.

To start, use all natural products. Perhaps this is the most important topic to talk about. When it comes to any products on the market (creams, sprays, medication, ointments, food, etc) there are eons of options. However, many are not natural based solutions. This time of year, little outdoor pests can be rather annoying for you and your pets. The natural, non -toxic sprays and after bite creams are the way to go! Think about it in terms of how you would care for yourself. Would you use parabens and chemical-filled sprays that could cause many side effects and health dangers? Or, would you use a naturally occurring ingredient product, with no tested harmful effects? While you may be seeking solutions, it does take a little research to find some products, but I promise you, they’re out there! 

To help you head in the right direction, we have a few product offerings that are excellent options!

Magnesium Chloride Flakes

Magnesium is SO important when it comes to both human and pet health. Magnesium Chloride Salt Flakes are naturally derived from evaporated salt water. It comes from the Tibetan Plateau which are located about 10,500 feet above sea level. The lab tested magnesium is free of lead, mercury and other heavy metals.

The flakes come in various offerings depending on the size of your pet. The offerings include pets under 20lbs, under 10lbs, under 5 lbs and under 2 lbs.

To use, mix in a few flakes in your pet’s water bowl. Stir until dissolved and mix in.

Newton Homeopathics Ear Relief

Okay this may be my favorite pet product we offer! After doing research on other pet ear products, this is one I always have on hand.

So, let’s talk ear wax for a minute. First off, ear wax is normal. However, our bodies should maintain a balanced level of ear wax. When the balance is off, we often will feel potential discomfort. The same is true for our furry friends. Newton’s Ear Relief encourages relaxation as it aids in relieving ear discharge, dryness, itching, difficulties in hearing and excess wax build up.

This product is easy to use and targets the root of the issue instead of suppressing the symptoms. It’s gluten-free, non-GMO and lactose free. Newton’s Ear Relief is taken by mouth and can be taken in up to 6 drops per day or as directed by a health care professional.

Mullein Oil again is something that can be used on humans and pets! It’s known as a natural ear ache remedy and provides soothing, calming and relaxing benefits. Mullein has long been used in herbal medicine practices.

The product is made with calendula oil, lemon oil, vitamin E oil and grapeseed in addition to the mullein oil.

To use: Put 2-4 drops of the oil in the ear canal and massage in the ear sparingly. NEVER drop the oil directly into the ear. This can be used up to 2 times daily for best results. Ear pain and itchiness should subside within 3 days max. Bye-bye itchy ears!!!

As an extra note, for humans this can be used to help fight respiratory tract infections, coughs, bronchitis, asthma and the flu. 

Greenerways Organic Bug Spray

This brand makes one of the only Certified Organic insect repellents that is Lab tested for repelling mosquitos. Unlike other major chemicals used in conventional brands, like deet for instance, Greenerways is deet free, using only organic oils. It’s safe on pets and children, too! The gentle mist doesn’t affect the pets fur in any way, which is a huge benefit of this product. Further, by spraying your pet, it prevents not only them from getting bit, but keeps bugs away from others who may be around the dog, too!  

Specifically, this spray is made from all organic oils including citronella, lemongrass, soybean, peppermint, cedarwood and thyme.
