the importance of dietary supplements

More exciting is their September 30, 2019 national survey of 1,003 U.S. supplement consumers. It is great news to report that 60% of their respondents take vitamins, minerals, herbs or other dietary supplements. Their survey also revealed …

Why Are Consumers Using Supplements:
     *  83% take supplements to better manage their health
     *  64% take supplements to be more proactive with their health

This supports the National Center for Complimentary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) findings in 2012:

Americans spent $12.8 billion out-of-pocket on natural product supplements, which was about one-quarter (24 percent) of what they spent out-of-pocket on prescription drugs ($54.1 billion). The mean annual out-of-pocket expenditure in this category was about $368.[i]

Health Concerns of Americans:

The Trust Transparency Center in their September survey also discovered that most Americans are concerned with:

     * anxiety or stress (30%),
     * high blood pressure (26%)
     * joint or other pain (25%),
     * high cholesterol (24%)
     * lack of energy (24%)[ii]

Supplement Usage to Date is 77%

But according the 20th CRN Consumer Survey on Dietary Supplements the figures are even higher. They report that 77% of Americans use dietary supplements. Adults between the ages of 35 and 54 use dietary supplements at a rate of 81%.

Magnesium in the Top Ten

All of these supplements are very important to our health and well being. However, considering that the top 5 concerns of Americans are: Anxiety/Stress, high blood pressure, joint or other pain, high cholesterol, and lack of energy, we are of the opinion that magnesium is probably the most important mineral on the list.

  • MG Can Help Relieve or Treat Your Depression and Anxiety
    Magnesium can play a huge role in the development and function of your brain. When stress levels increase, the magnesium concentrate in your body decreases. Magnesium contributes to many of the pathways, enzymes, hormones, and neurotransmitters involved in mood regulation. When these magnesium levels become too low, anxiety and depression can become more prominent. Magnesium also plays a vital role in regulating cortisol levels by preventing excess cortisol production and calming the nervous system.
  • MG Can Lower Blood Pressure.
    Magnesium plays a big role in keeping your blood pressure regulated. Since it helps to relax muscle cells it helps to stop the constriction of blood in your veins and arteries. Magnesium helps dilate blood vessels, prevent spasms in your heart muscle and blood vessel walls, dissolves blood clots and contributes to the relaxation of blood vessels.
  • MG Can Help To Strengthen Your Bones.
    Although calcium is the best mineral for building your bones, magnesium is just as important in the structure of them. Magnesium stimulates the hormone known as calcitonin which is vital in the preservation of bones by being an essential role in the absorption and metabolism of calcium. This mineral is also known for keeping teeth strong and healthy by using the same mechanisms as the bones.
  • MG Helps With Cholesterol Levels:
    The regulation of the enzyme, HMG-CoA reductase is required in order to prevent this enzyme from being producing cholesterol in excess. Magnesium regulates this enzyme and imitates a natural statin drug. Magnesium can help lower bad cholesterol, reduce triglycerides and increase good cholesterol which helps prevent coronary heart disease.
  • MG Helps With Energy Levels:
    Magnesium is great for boosting your exercise performance by helping your blood sugar and muscles. Magnesium helps with the relaxation of muscles as well, which would increase the speed of your recovery time after every gym session. As well as help you with a good nights sleep so you are not so tired the next day. By helping with the relaxation of your muscles it tells your brain “time to shut down.”
